In my experience as a state patrol sergeant, the following are driving behaviors or situations that “stood out” from the norm.  Not every violation mentioned below necessarily results in a citation but it will, at a minimum, result in a warning and a reason for a traffic stop. As we are aware, many of the violation warnings will be evaluated in FMCSA’s safety measurement systems.

April is national distracted driving awareness month. And while the statistics on this problem are epidemic in magnitude (3,477 fatalities in 2015), the devastating impact of these accidents can only be felt one story at a time. 

OSHA originally set an enforcement date of June 23, but has delayed it to September 23 of this year. They delay is due to OSHA wanting "to conduct additional outreach and provide educational materials and guidance for employers", but it is likely this delay will lead to a cut of this potential new standard. So - what should employers do?

On March 23rd, the Senate along with the House voted to overturn OSHA's final ruling that addressed employers' obligation to make and maintain accurate records of work-related injury and illness data. With a 50-48 vote, the Senate passed a joint resolution disapproving the dubbed "Volks" rule, which OSHA issued in the final days of the Obama Administration. 

Today, the FMCSA will publish a notice in their Federal Register withdrawing their Safety Fitness Determination proposed rule. The FMCSA previously announced that instead of moving to a final rule, a supplemental notice of proposed rulemaking would be the next step in the process.
