Work Comp: When Are Commuting Employees Covered?

For the most part, employees on their way to and leaving from work are not eligible for workers' compensation. This is referred to as the "coming-and-going rule." In other words, accidents during these times are an employee's business, and her employer is not on the hook. It also should be noted that employees who are running errands during a work day that are substantially unrelated to their employment also are not covered by workers' compensation.

New OSHA Hazard Communication Regs [What Employers Need to Know]

OSHA is changing its Hazard Communication Standard, and employers are required to train employees on the updated requirements by December 1.  The changes align OSHA's regulations with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS), which is the international standard for labeling and clearly communicating chemical hazards to employees.

HR COMPLIANCE ALERT: New I-9 Form Required Starting May 7

Starting May 7, all employers will be required to use a revised Form I-9, the employment eligibility verification document completed for every new hire. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced the change to the I-9 employment eligibility form in early March.
